There are dozens of so called home based business and especially online marketing gurus who are trying to provide ways for other people to earn money by working at home. While many of these “opportunities” may be scams, there are some which are legitimate. They all sound good and honest in their sales pitches. In fact, they tout the fact that other people are promoting scams but theirs is not one of those.

A home based business is one which can often be started on a shoe string with very little investment capital required. It is something in which the person may have to work harder than at a regular job in order to get it going. It does require a lot of work and effort in order to find any measure of success.

There are lots of types of home based businesses with some of the main ones being network marketing (MLM or multi-level marketing), in which one is supposed to get others to sign up under him/her and build a downline, and online marketing in which people are trying to sell something using the internet. These two methods are often combined and used in tandem.

Gurus are selling their products and the products of others which is affiliate marketing. The really big ones are no longer actually working at a home based business. Most have graduated up to where their business has become a job with an office, employees, and overhead. They may be earning millions of dollars in what has grown to be a large operation.

Much of the information that gurus are pushing is just something to earn money for themselves. There is no way that they could use all the products they are selling. They are promoting for others in order to receive a commission. They are often recommending items which they have not used and which they will never use. They may have purchased it to check it out, but they cannot honestly say they have put it into practice. Because of this, their sales information is often misleading and sometimes dishonest.

Any home based business takes hard work and dedication in order to begin earning money and finding success at it. It could require talking to a lot of people and getting others to join in your venture. It may take study and research. It will take lots of work.

Although many gurus have some good advice, the products they sell may not work. If you find someone you like, however, pay attention to what they say. Put into practice good ideas you find. You can make a home based business profitable by working hard and putting in a lot of effort. Lots of people have done it.
